The Story Behind Our |
Navigating the Mainstream School System with Nuance & ExpertiseOur team of exceptional practitioners seek to support neurodivergent children to thrive in the modern education system, on the fields and playgrounds, and at home. To achieve this, our directors combine their complementary expertise to build a supportive environment that brings together families, schools, and guardians to enrich and empower neurodivergent children and individuals in our community. |
Before founding Great Minds Positive Behavioural Specialists, our cofounders and directors had spent decades encountering the same obstacle from two different sides. On one side, from within the mainstream education system as a teacher, and on the second side, from within the behavioural psychology industry.
The obstacle was that Victorian children who were living with neurodivergent conditions faced a gap between the way that mainstream schools taught (via generic, discipline-based criteria) and the way that they understood and communicated on a personal level (a more nuanced, person-centred approach).
And with time, this gap was ever widening and making it difficult for children to catch up on their own terms. For this reason, our co-founders and directors saw Great Minds Positive Behavioural Specialists as a chance to help neurodivergent children navigate, communicate with, and ultimately better understand education from mainstream schools.
In this way, our founders and team of exceptional practitioners support neurodivergent people to thrive across all areas of life - at home, in education, at work, and in the community. To achieve this, our directors bring together their complementary expertise to create supportive environments that connect families, carers, educators, and support teams, helping to empower neurodivergent people in our community.
Creating Supportive Environments For People To Express ThemselvesAfter spending over a decade in their respective industries, our co-founders recognised that the best way for neurodivergent people to feel confident expressing themselves is through person-centred, supportive environments in everyday life. | In this way, our practitioners aim to empower people with agency, self-regulation, knowledge, skills, and confidence to better understand themselves and the world around them. Through evidence-backed approaches and personalised support, this has allowed the people we support to feel heard first and foremost, and to express themselves in positive and meaningful ways. |
